The Wee British Shop St. Pete is officially on its way, and the Burg is about to get a whole lot more interesting on 5th Ave N.
Opening its doors for the first time this October, The Wee British Shop will bring a curated selection of imported British and Irish snacks, pantry staples, sweets, and specialty goods to St. Pete, filling a gap that the area’s growing expat community and curious locals have felt for years.
The People Behind The Wee British Shop St. Pete
The Wee British Shop St. Pete was founded by two UK expats who know firsthand what it feels like to miss the flavors of home. John, originally from Brentwood, Essex, and Sarah, from Greenock, just outside Glasgow, have spent about a decade living in the Tampa Bay area. Over those years, the realization kept coming back: there was nowhere local in St. Pete to find the food, the comfort, and the community that British and Irish expats were looking for.
So they built it themselves.
“We’ll be stocking everything you know and love, and we can’t wait for everyone, not just expats, to come in, try the treats we grew up with and browse the unique gifts we’ll be bringing in too,” John and Sarah shared ahead of the opening.
Sarah added simply: “I love living here and I wanted to share my wee bit of home with St. Pete.”
What to Expect Inside
At just under 1,300 square feet, The Wee British Shop St. Pete will be stocked with an impressive range of imported goods spanning every category. Shoppers can expect to find Cadbury chocolate, Yorkshire Tea, PG Tips, Tayto crisps, crumpets, Bisto gravy granules, Ribena, clotted cream, and a wide selection of specialty pantry items that are hard to track down anywhere else in the Tampa Bay area.
This is not a generic import aisle. Every item was chosen with intention, which is exactly what makes The Wee British Shop St. Pete worth a visit even if you’ve never set foot in the UK.
A Home Away From Home on 5th Ave N
John and Sarah have described their vision as a “home away from home,” a spot where the British and Irish community in St. Pete, and anyone who has ever fallen in love with UK culture, can shop, connect, and feel a little less far from home.
That sense of warmth and community is woven into everything they’re building. It’s the kind of local shop St. Pete does better than anywhere, and The Wee British Shop fits right into that tradition.
